Return to work

Return to work

1st full day @ the choldminders

The dreaded return to work finally arrived! I have always known that at some point I had to let Aydin go a bit and luckily now that the moment has come I can go to work a little less disheartened knowing he is with someone that I feel understands us and what we feel is important for our little boy. The settling days were an absolute breeze, Aydin loved the company of other children and did not notice my absence which is fantastic for him. Maybe a bit less so for me on a selfish level, it is hard not to feel that that love that borders on obsession is not mutual. But I am willing to deal with whatever is thrown at me as long as he is happy.

His first full day was great he eat like a little monster and did not have any weepy episodes and nor did I, that’s a result! He napped and was a happy chap when I picked him up in the evening. I felt my hour with him before bedtime was extremely short and I could not help but feel a surge of guilt for spending so little time with him. Admittedly my day at the office did not leave me half as tired as a full day with him but I do feel like leaving him with someone else is a bit of a cop out. Like I am being irresponsible for not dealing with my baby myself.  I know I shouldn’t feel this way because he has so much to gain from his new friends and new environment but after 13 months of giving him absolutely everything I had in me it is hard to let go. The guilt of no longer doing so much every moment, of leaving him, of not being the one that picks him up when he whines, not being the one holding his hands when he wants to walk around, not being the one feeding him, changing him and not being the one that cuddles him when he wakes from his naps disorientated, missing his babbling which seems to change daily.

Week 54 – 55 (31st August – 13 th September)

Week 54 – 55 (31st August – 13 th September)

These couple of weeks you have been making lots of sounds and communicating more effectively. Lots of Ma ma ma’s to catch my attention for everything and anything. You started winding your hands like in wind the bobbin up And more accurate clapping. You have started spitting food out that you don’t like the taste of like plantain and beetroot.

You also had a few settling days with Bibiana your new Childminder and coped amazingly well. You immediately looked round the house and got comfortable wit the other children. Oh I really hope you settle in well and enjoying being there the 3 days a week. I will miss you so much but if you are happy I will find a way to cope.

Week 52 (17th August – 23rd August)

Week 52 (17th August – 23rd August)

Unbelievably you turned 1!

1 whole year in my life with very few moments of rest and lots of beautiful memories.

My little boy you have gone through such a transformation from helpless baby to independent little boy. I fall in love with you more and more each day. I am totally crazy about your little personality and how it slowly starts to become apparent in your everyday activity. Like wanting to eat your all your avocado before anything else is allowed to go in your mouth. Or insisting repeatedly on which direction you want to walk in regardless of my best attempts to sway you back to the living room. Or your obsession with pop up books/ flip books or failing this Room on the broom is the only one permitted at nap and bed times.
Here’s to the many wonderful moments that are yet to come and I dream of having with you. X

Week 50 (3rd August- 9th August)

Week 50 (3rd August- 9th August)

This week we celebrated the 1st of the August special days, my birthday came mid week and it was spent quietly at home with my little one. In the evening mama and Juanchi popped in to make the day more like a celebration which was lovely. With Aydi around the focus has totally shifted and I have been relegated to 2nd (more like 10th) place in the pecking order. But I think that sums up parenthood. 🙂

Week 47 (13th July – 19th July)

Week 47 (13th July – 19th July)

The weather was pretty miserable at the start of the week which just didn’t motivate me to do much. But by Thursday things had brightened up.

We had Aydins 8 month -1 year check up and all seems well. At 47 weeks he is weighing 10.5 kg and measuring 77cm.

Aydin had lots of fun with the TV cardboard box. I love how it’s the simplest things they find entertaining.
